My story goes way back to the age of 13, from hockey player to skateboarder, turned cross fitter and olympic lifter I have been moving and keeping fit ever since. However after all those years of hard physical sport, by the age of 26 I had bad knees, a mangled back, and a very unhappy shoulder. I woke up one day thinking, “How is this normal to be feeling like I’m 80 when I’m only 26?”
So I went out venturing, looking for answers. I stumbled across a podcast that was hosting Julien from Strongfit, and instantly was blown away. I had been in the fitness space for a while and not heard anything like this, to me it was revolutionary yet naturally intuitive. So I latched on to their principles and teachings and started to see changes in not only my physical body (pain, strength, conditioning and performance) but the mental/behavioural understanding of myself and how workouts and life affect me day to day.
It wasn't easy, but it was simple. I found a way to bring myself back from “the dead” hypothetically speaking and Im showing others how to do so as well. One by one I’m helping clients reassemble their lives through training and giving them the tools to help reduce chronic pain, fix movement patterns, identify weaknesses, build strength, increase aerobic capacity, realign sleep, manage food, and navigate mental/physical states (anxiety/ depression).

Growing up I had a deep desire to explore and understand the human mind, while also being an athlete, playing competitive volleyball. Once I got into college, I had to re-learn my relationship with fitness while continuing to pursue my passion of psychology. Through that time, I began to see the connection between my own mental and physical health, which led me to become passionate about understanding this relationship. After getting my degree in psychiatric nursing, I began working on an intensive specialized in-patient eating disorder unit in BC. During this time, I discovered a large gap between research and practical application of mental health treatment modalities. I saw significant research highlighting the benefits of exercise on our mental well-being, yet there was a disconnect when it came to applying this knowledge.
With my 4+ years in practice as a psychiatric nurse and my 10 years of fitness experience, being a part of the Deep Roots Athletics community gave me an answer to the ever longing question, “how does exercise impact your mental health?” Recognizing that the mind and the body are an integrative system and cannot be segregated is only the beginning. With the training principles we apply at Deep Roots, our clients will begin to see and discover their behaviours inside and outside of the gym. This is where real change lives.

From the age of six, physical movement has been a staple in my life. As a multi-sport athlete, I dedicated my athletic pursuits to soccer, with hopes of joining a post-secondary team. However, from the age of 16, I faced numerous challenges, including traumatic ankle and shoulder injuries, nagging knee issues, and overall chronic pain. These experiences sparked my interest in studying movement, leading me to pursue a degree in kinesiology at Douglas College.
During my time there, I played for the college soccer team for two years, served as a junior athletic therapist, and coached youth for over eight years. These roles provided me with invaluable experience that has translated into my work as a kinesiologist. Since then, I have practiced and studied in the health sector for over five years as a certified kinesiologist and movement coach.
After undergoing four surgeries and years of competing in sports, it was not until I encountered Jon and his philosophy that I fully grasped the mental, physical, and behavioral impacts of my injuries. I had attended his nervous system seminar and found myself looking at my profession, my life, and my training completely different. He provided the insights I had been searching for, effectively bridging the gap between injury rehabilitation and a return to a more pain-free lifestyle.
I now integrate these principles into both my personal life and my practice, striving to help individuals improve in all aspects of their health.
